Experiments with Plants combines an active nature with scientific experimentation -- it creates a sort of science fiction. The Labcoats are experimenting with the plants as opposed to on the plants (and the plants seem to be experimenting with them). The plants not only have agency, but a place in the social structure of the experiment.
