Nicole Babin

<< >>

Artist's statement: Nicole's photography captures movements and images on the periphery of existence, exploring society's dilemmas and how they impact upon the lives of women around the world.  Having traveled throughout Europe, North America and the Caribbean, Nicole has had the opportunity to document and analyze intense moments of social conflict, protest and change through photography.

Nicole's subjects are often found in intense environments, extremes represented in locations as diverse as a defunct munitions factory, condemned mental institutions and upscale offices.  The photographs in this exhibit evoke a sense of continuity; segments of actions frozen in transition and hinting at a greater story.  Nicole's photography conveys the desperation of the individual facing extreme isolation within her own society.

Inspired by her desire to challenge the barriers that women face during the process of growth and self-definition, the struggles of the forgotten, the left-behind and the under-exposed are the subjects of Nicole's works.
