Yechel Gagnon
AOCAD, MFA
Yechel Gagnon is a multi-disciplinary artist using
plywood as her main medium to explore both the
pictorial and the sculptural realm by creating
large-scale bas-reliefs, sculptures, installations,
drawings and embossments. Gagnon holds a Master of
Fine Arts in Studio Arts from Concordia University
after receiving an AOCAD with Honours in Drawing and
Painting from the Ontario College of Art and Design.
In 2004, she had her first museum solo exhibition at
the McMaster Museum of Art, Ontario that received both
critical and public acclaim. This installation,
entitled Palimpsest, is now part of the permanent
collection of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.
She
exhibits in commercial galleries, artist run centres
and museums across Canada, receiving reviews in the
Globe & Mail, Canadian Art, Vie des Arts, Espace
magazine and Circa International magazine. Gagnon has
received grants from both the Canada Council for the
arts and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du
Québec. She already has two major publications to her
name.
Gagnon’s work is widely collected and is part of
the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Osler Hoskins &
Harcourt collection, Le Centre-d’art de Baie-St-Paul
and in other high profile corporate and private
collections.
Yechel Gagnon is represented by the Moore
Gallery in Toronto.
