Artist Biography
I was born in Ireland in 1977. I studied graphic design in the Dublin
Institute of Technology, Ireland, specializing in photography and
illustration. Having concluded my Bachelors I attended the University of
Windsor, Canada to complete a Master of Fine Art. Although photography is
my main area of artistic practice, I continue to explore other media
through my book making and paper arts. Where I utilize sewing techniques
incorporating beading and the use of exotic papers. I have exhibited in
Ireland and Canada, exhibiting works that express experimentation with
photographic and graphic arts practices. I am at present a practicing
artist in Dublin, Ireland.
Artist Statement:
I explore paper and book arts utilizing my training as a graphic artist. I
use the format of the book as the basis to explore combinations and
juxtapositions of exotic papers, textures, and materials such as ribbons,
treads and glass beads. To create the paper panels I use the same
techniques as with a book cover only removing it from the book. As
inspiration for these pieces I look at the materials themselves and to
favorite paintings, graphic design styles and art movements.
