Artist's
Statement
I
was born in1959, in the town of Bourgas, Bulgaria.
1986 - Graduated from National Academy
of Fine Arts in Sofia, Bulgaria
majoring
in painting.
During
graduate school I joined numerous archeological excavation projects
with
my friends, who majored in archeology. At first I was captured by the
opportunity
to explore antique uniquely
preserved mundane attributes and objects, as well as
cultural
monument dating back 2,500 - 5,000 B.C.., a rare chance that allowed me to
literally
“touch history” and glimpse into the spiritual and cultural heritage
of ancient
civilizations.
A
year later, while participating in another archeological research
expedition
I
was mesmerized by the signs and drawings carved into the stone texture.
Furthermore,
I witnessed similar figures that resembled insect imprint, or
millennia-old skeletal prints of marine (animals) fauna ingrained
deeply into the multi-layered fabric of the Earth. Similarly, I was
impressed by this somewhat mystical prehistoric imagery, and the idea of
transforming these imprints into a profound trace. This magic trace
pervaded my painting quest, and as a result resonates to this day
throughout my entire art .
In
fact, this particular effect triggered within me a feeling of time and
space,
revealed an image of the old and the new world,
enabling me to extend a virtual bridge
between antiquity and modernity.
A
few years later, I was able
to interweave this intriguing effect as a structural
trait,
that ever since permanently throughout my
abstract-figurative expressionistic canvas.
