Statement
We
are made of many layers. Revelation and concealment, both conceptually and
formally, drive my work. I am continually searching for the connections
within and between.
Usually,
my work will evolve from a mental image or a formal experiment. Numerous
materials serve as sources of motivation and work reductively to unify
form and feeling. The mediums that attract me are generally transformative
and can deceive or play with appearance to carry several meanings.
I
am constantly researching, mixing, altering, testing and waiting.
Literally touching and holding materials during media application cements
my involvement with the method and conception on many levels. My process
holds both moments of invention and discovery, and because of this, the
imagery has evolved to that of an alchemist.
I
have used wound imagery over the past few years to suggest many ideas. I
think that the wounds represent growth in pain, beauty in suffering. They
insinuate the limitation of the human body and the connection between
mental and physical states and spaces. The paintings are, in a sense,
fetishistic objects, and they are manipulated to imply this condition.
They represent us as a vulnerable figure; one that is constantly
transformed.
