Artist Statement
My paintings are inspired by photos that I’ve taken over the years. From my travels, my daughter, experiences and moods, these images are starting points of discovery. Dimensions change, colors are altered, shadows are deepened, edges can be softened or sharpened and compositions arise from these elements. There is always a singular feeling that motivates the painting. I have come to respect these sensations, letting theme guide me through the process. Non-animate objects can arouse sentiments as strong as personal subjects. Movement is very important to me, the eye moving over the canvas, capturing the light and pulsing of shapes. Each painting is a story to investigate. My job is to begin the story, allowing the viewer to take it to the next step.
