Hajo Horstmann was born in
Gleiwitz, Germany, in 1929. Since 1945, he has been living
in Erlangen, in Bavaria. He studied biology and chemistry and
received his doctor´s degree in biology from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg
in 1955. From 1956 to 1991 he worked as a scientist and teacher for
biochemistry at the Institute for biochemistry, Medical Faculty, of
the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. In 1970 he was appointed Professor
for biochemistry.
After his retirement, his
interest turned to graphic and plastic arts. In various special courses
he acquired the techniques for making etchings, wood carvings and
sculptures. He is a self-educated painter.
His work has been presented
in a number of solo and group exhibitions of fine arts taking place in
Germany and abroad. In 2005 he was awarded a prize for sculpture at the
Biennale Internazionale dell`Arte Contemporanea at Florence, Italy.
